Welcome to 2012

Welcome to all bird lovers, parrot owners, frequent travelers and everyone who needs a good home for their feathered friend while you are away.

Originally I thought I would be able to publish a blog post every week but that did not happen. There is just not enough time to do it all. Instead I am happy to just post the most important things once in a while and concentrate rather on our Newsletter, Yelp and Facebook pages.

We had a very busy year in 2011.I am proud to announce that the Bird Hotel has gown another 100% over the last 12 month. In the latest newsletter I have mentioned some statistics. Feel free and sign up for the quarterly newsletter to find out about upcoming things and updates for a period of 3 month. Of course I hope I can extend the letter with useful information and possible offers to serve the feathered community of the Bay Area.

I also wanted to inform everyone that Kya found a new home. I don’t have exact information but was informed that many people were interested in taking her in. I hope that Kya will be happy. Thank you for all the inquiries I have received.

Here is the latest Newsletter you can sign up on our webpage or Facebook.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The date already moved forward to the 14th of January in 2012 but I think it is still valid to wish everyone a Happy and successful New Year.
I apologize for the delay with this newsletter but I have to face the inevitable downfalls of small business ownership when my supporting business partners are green and wear a feather suit.
Nevertheless I am able now to give you an update of what’s new with Squawk and Howl.

The most important announcement of 2012 is right here:

We will be closed from March 5 to March 17 2012.

Many people already had been informed. Due to a family event in Europe I have to close Squawk and Howl for a couple of weeks in March of 2012. After that I will be back and be able to serve the feathered community of the Bay Area in any which way possible.

For the newcomers of Newsletter subscribers:
a quick history run down. Squawk and Howl was an existing parrot centric pet sitting business I have bought and taken over in August of 2011. I merged the pet sitting with the boarding division currently still known as the San Francisco Bird Hotel. Now I am working on the new Squawk and Howl to change the appearance with my goal to instill my own business philosophy into it. Hence, it is undergoing a serious facelift as we speak, and   2012 will be the first full year after I have taken over ownership.

Don’t forget. We are on Facebook and Yelp.  Don’t be shy and leave your review.San Francisco Bird Hotel

This is a quarterly Newsletter
and will report the most important happenings covering January to April 2012

Squawk and Howl pet sitting:

My contractors, Caroline and Ryan helped me to serve a number of clients over the last six month. Without them I would not be able to serve the whole Bay Area. We were able to deliver impeccable services and flawless communication to our clients. We are here for advice and consultations to answer any question there is with the goal to make any parrot, cat and dog and their humans a happy returning customer.

In October I drove to Oakley, California. Why Oakley and where is Oakley located anyway you might ask yourself.  Well, Oakley is the home of the famous “The Medical Center for Birds”. It is well worth the drive of the 1 hour east from San Francisco to get there. If possible avoid rush hour though, especially if you have a bird in the car.  At the Medical Center for Birds you find the specialists needed for all your avian medical questions you might have. I introduced myself as the new owner of Squawk and Howland met the staff. I was impressed by the compassion and emphatic energy I felt there. If I would recommend any veterinarian then it is the team of Dr. Brian Speer DVM, Dip ABVP,ECZM, Dr. Brenna Fitzgerald DVM and Dr. Geoffrey Olsen, DVM,DIP ABVP ( Avian).  Click here for further information:http://www.medicalcenterforbirds.com/
In November I participated at the Mickaboo Bird Rescue Annual Celebration and donated two pet sitting /boarding sessions at their silence auction. Both donations had been auctioned out and I am looking forward to offer our services to any new customers in need. Besides a delicious potluck buffet I experienced the enthusiastic energies of people with a big heart and the dedication to volunteer their time for the cause of bird rescue and adoption. This is an honorable thing to do. Check out their website here: http://www.mickaboo.org/

Our Bird Boarding Division “The San Francisco Bird Hotel”

Last year was the first year that the Bird Hotel was the most attractive vacation destination for many pet birds in San Francisco. The wildest months were November with Thanksgiving and December with Christmas. We were fully booked and very, very busy with all our guests. I am happy to report though that every single guest left happy and balanced with great vacation memories. The number of returning  clients has almost doubled from 2011 to 2012 and  jumped from 34 to 60 in addition to individual guest visits growing from 86 to 165 respectively. We have bought a number of new cages so we are able to accommodate big and small without any problems during the year of 2012.

Our latest perk is the popular “Frequent Fly-In mileage passport”, ideal for frequent guests. Some eager birds already have applied for it because by the end who could resist a free 3 day stay in the Bird Hotel with access to all the offered amenities like our beloved Spa and Alex’ water tasting events. A copy of the Fly in passport is posted on our website under services. For more details please check it out and let us know if your bird is interested. There is no application fee. Bartok, Pepita, Pablo, Piper, Alex the Grey, Gromit and Seven are the proud owners of this precious travel document. I can imagine that many more guests would be interested. Check out the link here:

Now there is nothing more to say than thank you for your trust in me to let me care for your animals. If here at the Bird Hotel or at your house I am honored to help out and make every individual vacation experience a safe, enjoyable and trustworthy one.

The most important announcement currently is that we will be closed from March 5 to March 17 2012 due to travel.  Thank you for your understanding.

I am looking forward to another year in the Bird Hotel and hope to meet many more new guests.

It will be fun. If you want to see what’s going on in the Hotel on a daily basis just jump on our Facebook Business page and enjoy the beauty of our guests.

About Birgit

I can look back to a wealth of bird care experience having been surrounded by my flock of Amazon parrots for over 15 years. I speak fluently and understand Amazonian, Cockatilian and Toucanian and I am proficient in Budgie talk and African-grey slang. I love them all and I can relate to their moods, desires and needs. It is a pleasure for me to get to know them and to listen to their story telling and individual contributions to the occasional sing-along's in our Hotel.
